Stead Street
Southwark, London, 2006-8

A new apartment block and line of terraces define gateway sites for a masterplan around a park in Elephant & Castle.

In 2006 a consortium of the Guinness Trust and Wandle Housing Association was selected to redevelop the Stead Street area as part of the Elephant and Castle Early Housing programme. Four separate redevelopment sites were identified around Stead Street and invited competitions were held to select architects for each site. We were selected to design Site 2 on Rodney Road and Site 4 on Brandon Street (Crown Terrace) whilst Haworth Tompkins were selected for Site 1 to the north of Stead Street and Panter Hudspith were selected for Site 3 to the south of Stead Street.
